Letter: Making light work of Hampshire County Council budget cut plans

More news, no ads

SIR – Regarding the budget shortfall that Hampshire County Council says it is facing, perhaps they should review the fact that since the beginning of this month, street lights are no longer being switched off between the hours of 1am and 4am.

This is the case where I live, and I assume that it is the case elsewhere in the county.

Can the council explain the reason for the reversal of its street lighting policy, and tell us the cost of doing so?

I realise that a £1 fee for each visit to the tip is only a small amount, but it could well turn out to be the thin end of the wedge, and also be used as another excuse by some to flytip.
