Letter: ‘I was touched that Barton binmen knocked my door to check on me.’

Every day we sadly are confronted with reading and hearing about all the sad and sickening things which affect our daily lives either directly or indirectly which often bring a tear to the eye and despair within the heart.

However, I would like to share an uplifting moment with everyone as I shed a few tears of joy which happened to me a few minutes ago.

It was collection day in my area for the green garden rubbish bag by the council but as I am far from well and awaiting medical attention in hospital my bag wasn’t in place as it normally is waiting to be emptied.

The vehicle arrived and duly attended to all the neighbours’ bags and then my doorbell rang: there stood the driver of the vehicle very concerned that my bag was missing and felt instinctively that he had to check to make sure that everything was all right and nothing was amiss.

To this gentleman I can only express my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for showing such concern and having the perspicacity to notice that things were not quite as regular as they normally are and taking the time and the trouble to do something about it. If only we had more such caring souls amongst us what a wonderful world it would be.
