Letter: I was speechless to read the announcement in the Lymington Times that NFDC has devised the most complicated refuse collection possible

Sir – I was speechless to read the announcement in the Lymington Times that NFDC has devised the most complicated refuse collection possible and is expecting to fine people who do not use this crazy system.

I have asked my district councillor to provide the comparative costings for this scheme as compared with the black and clear plastic sack collection we have been using, but have had no reply as yet.

What is going to go into the recycled bags? Not paper or card; not glass, not most plastic. How many more vehicles and fuel will be required for all these extra collections? This needs to be included with the costings along with the wages of the extra man hours.

New bin rules too complicated, says Alison Bolton

I currently put out one clear and one black bag every fortnight and glass collection about twice a year as I live on my own. Food waste, if any, is composted.

I have a surplus of bags, though there appears to be no system for returning these. My waste is put within a metal dustbin in the appropriate bags and I am grateful to the men who deliver this service. I will be interested to see the 'savings' from the new scheme.

I sometimes think the district council forgets who pays their salaries.
