Letter: Council solution not solving New Forest’s pothole problems
It is no surprise that the pothole problem is increasing if the following is typical of Hampshire County Council’s solution to the problem.
Armstrong Lane in Brockenhurst is approximately 150 meters long. Last year reports were made to HCC regarding the number of potholes. Three were duly marked with white lines, and weeks later, the "patch it " men arrived, filled in two holes and left.
They returned the next day and filled in the third. The reason – it was not on their computer so they had to return to the office to check. Mobile phones?
This year reports were made regarding further potholes. On around 10th May, one small hole was filled in. The following day two HCC men arrived and spent all morning filling in another hole. The next day, a commercial company arrived in a lorry with an automated system and filled in 14 holes. Other holes were left untouched.
I contacted HCC in May to ask about this gross inefficiency and the waste of public money. After three months I am still waiting for a reply!
