Letter: A poor memoriam to George

Lymington, ‘Jewel of the Solent’?

Not any more, it seems.

Spot the commemoration on the bench, outside the old post office, ‘In memory of George Arthur Scarlett, in recognition of his dedication in keeping the town of Lymington clean’.

This bench is now in a sea of crisp packets and other detritus, with the neighbouring bench covered in guano.

Obviously after the passing of this dedicated gentleman, Pennington & Lymington Council, have not found a replacement, or anyone, who seems to share the same pride in this acclaimed Georgian town.

Difficult perhaps, to train the guano droppers, but these benches are next to a litter bin. The whole area is a mess, get it sorted please.

What a poor aspect for visitors to take away as a memory.
