Woman pedestrian killed in collision with van in Airfield Way, Christchurch
A WOMAN in her seventies was killed in a collision with a van in Christchurch this morning (Thursday).
The incident involved a Mercedes Sprinter and the casualty as she walked in Airfield Way at about 11.40am.
The woman, who was local, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been informed.
The van driver, a man aged in his 50s, was not physically injured, Dorset Police said.
Officers investigating the incident are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
A road closure was put in place at the junction of Airfield Way for officers to examine the area.
Sgt Sarah Jones, of the traffic unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the woman who very sadly died in this collision.
“We are carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what happened and would urge any witnesses to please come forward.
“I would also ask motorists or businesses in the vicinity to please check their dashcams or CCTV systems for any footage that may be relevant to my enquiries."
She added: “Finally, I would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while the road closure is in place.
"This is absolutely necessary to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.”
