A WOMAN and two children had to be rescued when they got stuck in bogland at Beaulieu after taking a shortcut on a New Forest walk.

The trio got into difficulty at the site between Beaulieu Heath and Hatchet Pond shortly after 4pm yesterday (Thursday), with the woman having sunk up to her waist.

Local firefighters joined forces with police to free them within 20 minutes, having been directed to the scene via the What3Words app which gives every three-square-metre plot a unique three-word address.

The emergency prompted local officers to issue a warning on Facebook for Forest walkers.

“[The woman] had been out for a walk and took a shortcut which sadly saw her sink up to her waist in a bog,” the post said.

“Please be careful when out walking in the Forest especially with it being so wet at the moment.”
