What’s On: Just My Imagination, Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre
THE music of Motown megastars the Temptations will be celebrated in the hit stage show Just My Imagination at Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre.
Onstage Sunday 8th October, the show is a celebration of musicians named by Billboard Magazine as “the number one group in the history of rhythm and blues”.
From their first hit, The Way You Do The Things You Do in 1964, through the career highs of My Girl, Ain’t Too Proud, Get Ready, Papa Was A Rolling Stone and Just My Imagination, The Temptations’ musical legacy spanned more than 50 years and 24 members.
Recording primarily for Motown Records, the best known Temptations were Otis Williams, Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin and Dennis Edwards. Hailed for their smooth harmonies and intricate choreography, the US vocal group were among the most popular performers of soul music in the ‘60s and ‘70s.
Originally called the Elgins, the Temptations formed in 1961 from the coupling of two vocal groups based in Detroit: the Primes, originally from Alabama, and the Distants. In the 1960s the group produced a series of romantic hits before shifting to a more funk-oriented sound. By the mid-1970s, with the Temptations changing personnel frequently, Otis Williams remained the only constant. The group was honoured with a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy in 2013.
This original production draws from the early Classic Five era and is inspired by the pace and energy of the hit Broadway show Ain’t Too Proud, which earned 12 Tony Nominations in 2019.
Featuring a cast of dynamic West End performers, Just My Imagination aims to deliver a fresh and exhilarating night of sing-along, dance along magic.
