One New Forest Covid death for third week running




FOR the third week running there was just one coronavirus death reported in the New Forest, according to official figures.

The Office for National Statistics’ (ONS) report released yesterday (Tuesday) said the fatality occurred in hospital. The death toll in the district so far this year is 172.

It was the same situation in the BCP Council area, which includes Christchurch, where there was also one coronavirus death in a hospital. Last week there were two fatalities.

The total number in the conurbation this year has reached 622.

The provisional figures from the ONS related to instances where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate up to 16th April but were registered up to 24th April. Previously reported numbers can change after being updated by the ONS.

The number of new weekly Covid-19 infections continued to stay low in the New Forest, according to separate government figures.

On Tuesday there were 27 new cases in the district over the latest seven-day period, compared to 29 last week. The rate per 100,000 people was 15.

Across the UK there were 16,884 new weekly cases, giving a rate of 25.3.

In the BCP conurbation, the number of new weekly cases was 61 – another slight rise on the previous week when it was 54. The rate per 100,000 people was 15.4.

The infection figures are for the numbers of people with at least one lab-confirmed positive Covid-19 test result in the preceding seven days.
