Weekly Covid update – 16 new deaths in the Forest
SIXTEEN people living in the New Forest have died from coronavirus over the past week, according to the latest update.
Across the district 11 of the fatalities were in hospital with the other five in care homes, the figures from the Office of National Statistics published this week revealed. They relate to deaths which occurred up to 29th January and registered up until 6th February.
This is down from 28 last week – the worst seven-day toll since the pandemic started
Overall the total number of deaths in the New Forest in 2021 from Covid-19 stands at 85. By comparison it was 173 in total throughout the whole of 2020.
Meanwhile, in the BCP Council area there were 114 deaths in the past week; 63 were in hospital, 48 in care homes, two in homes and one in a hospice.
That is another rise on the week before – when there were 103 deaths, while the week before that the figure was 70.
For the second week in a row the case rate in the New Forest fell again, with the weekly number of people with a positive result dropping from 345 last Tuesday to 232 this week.
It means the district had an infection rate of 128.8 per 100,000 people – below the UK average on the same day of 299.4.
By comparison the BCP area rate per 100,000 was just below the UK average at 291.7, with 1,153 people with a positive result.
