A YELLOW weather warning has been issued for heavy rain and flooding throughout the New Forest and Christchurch today.

The Met Office alert is in place until midnight, with up to 50mm of rain possible within a six-hour period in some of the worst hit areas.

“Some locations could see 80-100mm over the course of 12 to 24 hours,” it was forecast.

Communities may be cut off by flooded roads, said the Met Office, and drivers are warned the downpours could “lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures”.

Power cuts are possible, continued the warning, and there could be delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

There is also the potential for homes and businesses to be flooded, resulting in damage to buildings.
