New Milton fireworks event is rescheduled and New Forest Fireworks Night, due to be held at Strawberry Fields, Lymington, cancelled
A major fireworks event has been rescheduled after its cancellation due to the horrific weather.
New Milton Fireworks was due to be held on Saturday at Fawcett’s Field in New Milton, but organisers were forced to call off the display because of heavy rain.
“We have come to the agreement with the council and our firework providers to run the event on Sunday 5th November,” said New Milton Round Table.
Tickets are available on the gates, which will open at 5:30pm. A bonfire will be lit at at 6pm, followed by a fireworks display at 7pm.
A second big event in Lymington has also fallen victim to the weather – the New Forest Fireworks Night due to take place on Saturday has been cancelled, and is unlikely to return.
Its site, Strawberry Fields in Lymington, is too waterlogged to cope with the crowds, say organisers.
“We are disappointed and reluctant to announce the cancellation of this year’s event,” they said.
“Despite our best efforts, the ground is simply too waterlogged to host the amount of people we were expecting at the event, and we feel it is safer to cancel.
“The last thing we wanted is for cars to be sliding around and getting stuck all night long.”
Future fireworks events would not go ahead at the site for the “foreseeable future”, said organisers, due to the ground “not currently being suitable for events such at this at this time of year”.
“Expect a full refund within the next few days,” they added.
The event was set to feature live music, a bonfire, street performers and a bar.
