Prime Minister Boris Johnson praises visit to Peppa Pig World at Ower during speech to Confederation of British Industry
THE Prime Minister has called New Forest attraction Peppa Pig World "my kind of place" at a conference where he raised eyebrows by making car noises and losing his way in his speech.
Boris Johnson revealed his visit to the site, at Paultons Park in Ower, when he spoke at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) meeting on Monday.
His comments, which left some highly critical of his unusual performance, included asking delegates to raise their hands if they had been to Peppa Pig World which he said he visited with his family on Sunday.
Mr Johnson said in his speech that “not enough” people had visited and added it was “my kind of place”.
He continued: "I was a bit hazy about what I would find at Peppa Pig World, but I loved it. Peppa Pig World is very much my kind of place.
"It had very safe streets, discipline in schools [and] a heavy emphasis on new mass transit systems, I noticed. Even if they are a bit stereotypical about Daddy Pig."
He added: "But the real lesson for me about going to Peppa Pig World was about the power of UK creativity.
"Who would have believed that a pig that looks like a hairdryer, or possibly a sort of Picasso-like hairdryer – a pig that was rejected by the BBC – would now be exported to 180 countries, with theme parks both in America and in China as well as in the New Forest.
"A business that is worth at least £6bn to this country, £6bn and counting. I think that it is pure genius, don’t you?
"No government in the world, no Whitehall civil servant in the world, could conceivably have come up with Peppa."
He added the UK was blessed with "the amazing inventive power and range of British business" which filled him with confidence for the days ahead.
Paultons Park is headed up by second-generation managing director Richard Mancey, supported by his wife Sara and children James, Lawrence, and Charlott.
James Mancey, operations director, told the A&T: "We are delighted that the Prime Minister of the UK, Boris Johnson, chose to visit Paultons Park... to enjoy valuable family time with his wife and son at Peppa Pig World, one of the five themed lands at Paultons Park.
"As the nature of Mr Johnson’s visit was a personal one, we are unable to provide any specific details of the family’s visit.
"However, we did have an opportunity to speak to the family before they left, when Mr Johnson and his wife were highly complimentary about their experience.
"The fact that Mr Johnson has chosen to speak at length about his visit during today’s CBI conference, positively endorsing the creativity and innovation showcased by Peppa Pig World and encouraging others to visit, is testament to the hard work of everyone at Paultons Park who create the wonderful experience our millions of guests enjoy each year."
Paultons Park was recently named the UK's number one amusement park in TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards for the fifth year running.
