Farmer Tom Nelson of Sunnyfields Farm in Jacobs Gutter Lane, Totton, creates giant Nightmare Before Christmas display with 10,000 pumpkins
A TOTTON farmer has used 10,000 pumpkins and squash to create a giant display which pays tribute to the 30th anniversary of a popular Halloween movie.
This year’s annual display at Sunnyfields Farm in Jacobs Gutter Lane pays homage to Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, which is being re-released on streaming service Disney+ to mark three decades.
Tom Nelson, who runs Sunnyfields with father Ian and Ian’s wife Louise, said the display took 48 hours of preparation before a team of 10 spent 50 hours positioning the pumpkins to depict the 1993 film’s main character Jack Skellington, known in the film as the Pumpkin King.
Displays in previous years have included a tribute to Her Majesty The Queen in the form of a giant Paddington Bear, a pumpkin carriage marking pantomime Cinderella on tour at The Mayflower in Southampton and a face mask in the aftermath of the Covid pandemic.
The display, which is open to farm visitors from Saturday, is part of the farm’s Pumpkin Time event, which includes pick your own pumpkins, themed food and a gift shop.
Tickets cost £5.50 per person, with under two’s free of charge. Dogs on leads are also welcome.
