AN upbeat song celebrating the joys of walking has been released by Milford musician Ivan Chandler and his band, the Go Go Five.

Former record company executive Ivan, who has played with stars including Dusty Springfield, moved to the area in 2016 and quickly became captivated by the community and its people, pubs, shops, beach and village green.

After previously serving as a parish councillor, he has stepped forward as a volunteer footpath warden, with a recent training session providing inspiration for his latest song.

Ivan said: “Somehow the phrase 'rights of way' struck a chord with me. Soon I came up with some lyrics, added a rhythmic beat and the song was born.”

Now available to watch on YouTube, Rights of Way is hailed as an upbeat track about the joys of getting out for a walk on local footpaths.

It was recorded at Sunshine Corner Studios in Fleet with Ivan’s band, the Go Go Five, helping put the track together.

Ivan added: “With the help from Gillian Tully of Film Expo South we produced a fun video to go alongside the track. It was filmed locally so some of the coastal and countryside views – and the characters – may be recognisable.”

Ivan’s love of Milford previously inspired him to write and record a track, Milford-on-Sea – the Place to Be, which he performed at the music festival on the village green.

Prior to moving to the area, keyboard player Ivan enjoyed a high profile and varied career in the music industry after beginning piano lessons when he was eight. By the time he was 18, he was playing keyboards for Dusty Springfield, Lulu and Cat Stevens, and was musical director for Kiki Dee.

He went on to hold senior management positions in the music industry at Motown International, Elton John’s Rocket Music company and Paramount Pictures publishing company. He formed his own music copyright and licensing consultancy company, Musicalities Ltd, in 1994.

Ivan and the Go Go Five will play a charity gig at Milford’s South Lawn Hotel on Saturday 11th December. To watch the Rights of Way recording visit youtu.be/GLS9IKxd9WM
