POLICE are warning motorists who have been racing and performing stunts on an industrial estate near Totton after locals complained.

Officers from Totton say they have received reports of vehicle nuisance and people racing around Calmore Industrial Estate for the past few weeks, with some motorists "thinking they’re an F1 driver".

They attended on Saturday evening after reports that between 60 and 70 cars had gathered and were being driven dangerously.

A spokesperson said: "One driver thought he was really impressive and decided to do doughnuts around a parked vehicle, with bystanders stood near watching. [It] wouldn’t be impressive if you lost control of your car and injured someone, would it?

"One driver thought it would be clever to stand in front of one of our police cars, preventing [an officer] from driving forward and doing his job. So to be clear – we do not condone dangerous driving here in Totton. Not only are you affecting the local community with your nuisance but you were obstructing a police officer from doing his job, which is a criminal offence. We are in the process of securing CCTV and other lines of enquiry."

Commenting on social media, one resident wrote: "This has been going on for months now – sort the boy racers out please". Another added: "The amount of burnt rubber [and] the markings on the road were awful. Absolute idiots."

Those with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
