Hants Women’s Premier Division: New Forest Hockey 10-0 Havant II

NEW Forest Hockey Club’s ladies first team remain in second spot in the Hants Premier with a stunning 10-0 victory over Havant II.

Forest started at great pace and were two up within the first five minutes. Firstly, quick passing resulted in an early goal for teenager Molly Pates, and then the experienced Lauren Gavin made it 2-0.

Forest pinned Havant back into their half as their defence of Rachel Lloyd, Sarah Biddlecome and Pates pushed forward and cut out and cleared any Havant attacks.

Inevitably, Forest pressure told, and they won a short corner which Waine converted convincingly for a 3-0 advantage.

Waine went on to claim three more. Her second was slapped past the keeper from a short-corner rebound, and she then nutmegged the Havant keeper after latching onto a Jade Lock pass for her hat-trick goal.

On the rare occasion that Havant had possession, quick interceptions from Lynn Jones, Octavia Allan and player-of-the-match Ruby Noble turned the pressure instantly back on the Havant defence.

Another short corner resulted in Gavin injecting the ball, receiving it back and slipping it past the keeper for a 6-0 half-time Forest lead.

Havant came out fighting in the second half and enjoyed more possession. They won a short corner; however, this was quickly dealt with by Lloyd who took the ball out of the danger area, putting it through to Allan on the right flank.

From here, a powerful cross found Gavin who dribbled it around the keeper for her hat-trick and Forest’s seventh.

Nicky Brooks then worked well with Lock on the left flank, and it was the latter’s first touch that left the defenders chasing and another short corner awarded. Gavin netted her fourth and Forest’s eighth goal from the set-piece.

Forest were dominant, and the final two goals were from an impressive drag flick by Waine from a short corner, and then the last play of the game saw Lloyd fire the ball through the Havant keeper’s legs.

New Forest: Octavia Allan, Sarah Biddlecome, Molly Pates, Dawn Pates, Ruby Noble, Nicky Brooks, Lauren Gavin, Rachel Lloyd, Jade Lock, Lia Waine, Lynn Jones, Maya Yates.
