Village brushes up on lockdown art
A COMMUNITY art project is calling on New Forest residents to get their creative juices flowing with works reflecting their feelings about the lockdown and coronavirus.
Art From the Heart is being organised by Brockenhurst Village Trust’s Sarah Neller and led by a small team headed by local artist Alan Beckett. The aim is to bring people together to share their experiences, culminating in a special exhibition.
“Brockenhurst is celebrating community creativity during these extraordinary times,” said Alan, who is hoping for a big response.
“The idea is for people to compile a drawing, paint a picture, crochet, embroider, photo, sculpt a small item, use a piece of the Forest – in fact, any medium they like – to convey their thoughts.
“We emphasise very much indeed that we are not looking for masterpieces, in fact, the simpler the better. You don’t need to be an artist to enter, and anything goes.
“Our aim is to give folk something positive to think about during these difficult times. Something a little creative and enjoyable – a contribution to community wellbeing and, indeed, a contribution to bringing people together in its own little way.”
It is hoped to exhibit every work submitted at the village hall. Organisers have stressed it is not a competition and there will be no judging.
To enter, artists should give their work a title and can write a short description of what the works means to them and what inspired it. Photos or scans of the artist’s work should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org with their name and contact details.
Pieces can also be delivered using the post box on the left of the village hall entrance or by posting to Brockenhurst Village Hall, Highwood Road, Brockenhurst, Hampshire, SO42 7RY.
There will be an online display of the work throughout 2021 and that and further details, can be viewed by visiting www.brockenhurstvillage.org.uk
