LYMINGTON RNLI rescuers rushed to help a woman left clinging to her paddleboard after it drifted offshore.

Several 999 calls to the coastguard resulted in the inshore lifeboat being launched shortly after 1pm and searching near Hurst Castle.

The casualty was found within five minutes, holding on to the board but very low in the water. She was then taken to Milford and left in the care of her friends.

Lifeboat helm Phil Baker said afterwards: “It is really important to ensure you tell people on shore your movements, which enabled friends to quickly call the coastguard in this instance.

“We would always recommend people wearing lifejackets as the sea temperature can still be very cold at this time of year.”
