Bransgore campaigners claim victory after Wyatt Homes withdraws plan for sewage treatment plant at Derritt Lane housing development
VILLAGE campaigners are claiming victory after a developer withdrew plans for a a sewage treatment plant at a new housing development
Wyatt Homes drew 250 objections with its proposal for the plant which was going to form part of a 100-home development which has already been approved for land at Derritt Lane, Bransgore.
One resident described it as a “giant cesspit” with another saying it was a “disaster waiting to happen”.
Others said it would “stink” and affect the health of villagers.
Bransgore Parish Council was also against the plan, which the company said was needed because of restrictions requiring new housing developments within the Avon catchment to be phosphate neutral.
At the time, a senior NFDC planning officer told Wyatt the application would almost certainly be refused on several grounds including the Environment Agency’s objection which also raised concerns about it.
The EA queried the “ability for Clockhouse stream to receive the proposed volume of output” and also wanted to know who would be responsible for the pumping station and sewage treatment plant after the development is finished.
Now Wyatt has withdrawn the application for a sewage plant saying it is seeking an alternative.
Campaigners reacted online to the news, with one saying: “Yes! Power to the people we have won.”
In an email to planning at NFDC a representative of the company said it is seeking “an alternative means of phosphate mitigation.”
