Upholsterers support Dementia UK with swimathon raising funds on Justgiving
A TEAM of upholstery students have taken the plunge to raise over £20,000 for Dementia UK.
The fundraisers, who collectively call themselves The Strippers and Stretchers, join forces to raise money for a local charity each year. This year the students set their sights high and decided to embark on a 24-hour team swimathon.
Led by upholstery teacher Susan Newman from Highcliffe, the relay team of 43 swimmers spent a day and night undertaking lengths of a private swimming pool at Wootton, with support from friends and family. The event also included a bumper raffle and live music from Bush Bash Bosh! They crossed the line to raise an incredible £20,498 for the charity.
Susan, who teaches upholstery at Brockenhurst College, joins forces with many of students past and present to organise a charity event each year.
She said: “We have done a number of different fundraising activities over the years including Walk the Walk, and this year we decided on raising money for Dementia UK because it is an illness that has impacted everyone.”
