NHS midwife praises New Forest for Ukraine charity and Forest residents

AN NHS midwife who volunteers at the Polish-Ukrainian border in her spare time praised New Forest residents for the help they have given the nation.

Wendy Warrington from Bury recently visited the Lymington base of New Forest for Ukraine (NFFU) to help the charity package its latest shipment of baby supplies and gift boxes.

Having volunteered on and off at the Ukraine border since 2022, she said: “The people I meet in Ukraine are in awe that people in the New Forest and UK give their time, donations and support.

“Knowing that people are thinking and caring about them really inspires them to keep going. I couldn’t do what I do without the support of NFFU and the New Forest.”

A charity spokesperson added: “We are the main charity for Wendy providing baby supplies, hygiene products for mothers, babies and small children as well as baby boxes of handmade clothes and gifts for new mothers in Ukraine.

“Wendy works closely with us and the non-governmental organisations which we support such as Suveren Foundation, Eleon Foundation and Kharkiv. This involves constantly researching and visiting hospitals, assessing what people’s needs are and then coordinating with us to deliver this aid directly to those who need it.”
