Two New Forest Covid-19 deaths in latest weekly update

THERE were two coronavirus deaths reported in the New Forest in the latest weekly up-date by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The two fatalities in the district – the same total for the third week running – both occurred in hospital.

In the BCP Council area, which includes Christchurch, there were four deaths – one more than the three last week. The latest fatalities were also all in hospital.

The provisional figures from the ONS related to instances where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate up to 26th March but were registered up to 3rd April. Previously reported numbers can change after being updated by the ONS.

Due to the bank holidays, the ONS released its figures for weekly coronavirus deaths yesterday (Thursday).

The number of weekly new Covid-19 infections continued to decline in the New Forest, according to separate government figures.

On Tuesday there were 36 new cases in the district over the latest seven-day period, giving an infection rate of 20 per 100,000 people. Last week the equivalent figures were 43 and 23.9.

The number of cases in the UK overall was 27,669 with a rate per 100,000 of 41.4. The highest rate was in Clackmannanshire with 256.1.

In the BCP conurbation, which includes Christchurch, the number of new weekly cases was 87 – up slightly on last week’s total of 76. The rate per 100,000 people was 22.

The infection figures are for the numbers of people with at least one lab-confirmed positive Covid-19 test result in the preceding seven days.
