Trial for New Milton man facing assault and drug offence charges




A NEW Milton man is set to stand trial for a string of alleged offences including attacking two people and a police officer.

Scott Smith (26), of Barton Court Road, has been charged with intentionally strangling a woman on 4th September, and assaulting her, occasioning her actual bodily harm on 31st August.

Smith also faces charges of assaulting a man, assaulting a police officer, using racially aggravated threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour towards the same officer; and damaging a woman’s window.

As well as these, said to have been committed in New Milton on 5th September, he is charged with possessing cannabis at his home address on the same date.

Smith gave no pleas when he appeared before Southampton magistrates, who remanded him in custody to appear at the city’s crown court on 1st October for plea and trial preparation.
