Train fault at Southampton Central causes disruption for South Western Railway commuters




RAIL commuters in the New Forest and Christchurch have been facing disruption this morning (Tuesday) after a fault on a train at Southampton Central.

South Western Railway first announced the issue shortly before 8.30am, saying some lines were blocked and journeys were likely to take longer.

Just over half an hour later, the it added all lines had been reopened but disruption was expected to continue until 11.30am.

It warned services running through Southampton Central railway station may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Passengers were informed that platform four would remain unavailable until the affected train moves, meaning some services may have to use different platforms.

An SWR spokesperson said: “For further information or onward travel advice please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point.

“We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey.”

Travellers preferring to continue their journey on local buses can check traveline.info but SWR tickets will not be valid.
