Thieves steal large haul of high-value cigarettes in raid on Waitrose in Christchurch




BURGLARS snatched a large quantity of high-value cigarettes in a raid on a supermarket in Christchurch.

Three men reportedly forced entry to the Waitrose branch in Bargates shortly after midnight on 7th September before fleeing in a small white van.

Witnesses are now being urged to come forward, as well as motorists who may have captured dashcam footage.

PC Ryan Higgins said: “An investigation is under way into the incident and a number of enquiries are ongoing.

“I am appealing to anyone who saw or heard any suspicious activity in the area, or may have seen a small white van, to please come forward.

“I would also urge motorists who were driving around Bargates to please check their dashcam for any footage to assist my investigation.”

The incident prompted local police to take to Facebook to advise businesses to ensure stock is properly secured overnight with CCTV coverage.
