Teenager tells Bournemouth Crown Court she was raped by Brian Nutt at Barton clifftop
A TEENAGER sobbed in the witness box at Bournemouth Crown Court as she told how she repeatedly told a man to stop as he raped her on Barton clifftop.
The girl said the assault happened the day after her 16th birthday, adding: “I cried and said ‘no’. If that is not an indication that I didn’t want it, I don’t know what is.”
Prosecutor Richard Tutt had told a jury that 10 months after the alleged attack in Barton in August 2021, Brian Nutt sexually assaulted another teenager in Bournemouth town centre.
In court, the girl broke down as she gave evidence against him from behind a screen. She said she had met the defendant, who was then 18, at New Milton skate park a few weeks earlier and had since met up several times.
On 10th August she went to Barton beach around 3pm with two male friends where they had “chilled and chatted”. Nutt had asked to meet her, and he later turned up with another friend.
In a police video interview shown to the jury, the girl said she had drunk Malibu, four beers and vodka shots. She had also smoked weed and said she was out “seven out of 10” drunk.
She told Nutt that she “fancied him” but she said she had no intention of having sex with him. Her two friends left, and she stayed behind with Nutt and his friend on the clifftop. She and the defendant started kissing and he then put his hand down her trousers.
He then took off his shorts and began pulling down her trousers, which he ripped.
The girl said: “I tried to get up and said ‘I don’t really want to do this’. He said ‘shush, shush, it will be fine’.”
The teenager said Nutt then started raping her. Breaking down she said: “I started saying ‘Can we stop? I don’t like it’.”
She said Nutt put his mouth close to her ear and told her to ‘shush’ again before putting his hand over her neck. She said: “I felt trapped. It felt like ages.
“I started to cry, he told me to be quiet.
“I remember him just laughing. I just didn’t see how I was going to get out of this situation. My body went into numb mode. I was crying quite loudly.”
She said she thought if she tried to escape Nutt would “be more aggressive and hurt me”. She said when the rape was over, she realised her phone was missing and went to find it, falling off the clifftop as she did.
She then made her way to a path back up to the cliff. She said Nutt had met her saying her mum was there and was “worried” about her before leaving.
She said: “My mum said, ‘What’s happened?’ I just burst into tears and told her that I had been raped.”
The girl was interviewed by police on 11th August and Nutt was arrested at an address in New Milton in the early hours of that day. When questioned by officers, he refused to comment before giving them a prepared statement in which he claimed the sex between him and the girl had been consensual.
Ten months later, the court heard, he allegedly raped another 16-year-old girl in Bournemouth town centre in June 2022, Nutt denies two charges of raping the first 16-year-old girl, one charge of raping the second teenager and one charge of ABH against her.
The trial continues.
