Pennington man handed suspended jail term for attacking police and possessing weapon in New Milton
ATTACKING a police officer during a stop and search while armed with an extendable baton resulted in a Pennington man receiving a suspended jail sentence.
Aaron Denham (22), of The Square, had previously pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker, escaping lawful custody, dangerous driving and possessing an offensive weapon.
Southampton Crown Court heard Denham assaulted an officer while being searched, having been stopped on Litchford Road in New Milton.
The incident took place shortly before 6pm on 11th October 2022, with the defendant then driving off in a dangerous manner during attempts to detain him.
He was later arrested at his girlfriend’s address.
Handed a four-month prison term, suspended for 24 months, Denham was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
He was made subject to a two-month electronically monitored curfew, requiring he stay at his home between 7pm and 5am.
As well as this, he was told to pay £250 compensation and £520 in court costs; and told to undergo rehabilitation activities and complete 100 hours of unpaid community work.
