Christchurch motorist Tyler Stewart given a six-month suspended jail term by Poole magistrates for driving BMW dangerously on cocaine

A motorist from Christchurch who dangerously tried to outrun the police in a BMW while on cocaine has been spared an immediate jail term.

Appearing before Poole magistrates, Tyler Stewart (23) of Maundeville Road admitted driving wrecklessly on Dorset Way, Poole, on 4th April last year.

He also pleaded guilty to driving without a valid licence, insurance or MoT certificate while on the class A drug and failing to stop for an officer.

The defendant further admitted being caught in possession of cocaine in Cabot Lane after he was stopped by the police.

Magistrates imposed a six-month jail term, suspended for one year, and banned Stewart from the highways for four years.

He was also ordered to complete 12 days of mental health treatment under a psychologist, 15 days of rehabilitation activity, and 200 hours of unpaid work over a 12-month period.

The Bench ordered he pay £239 in court costs, too.

Court paperwork said: “The offences are so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified.

“The reasons for this is the police chase, (he) disregarded the risk of danger and all the rules of the road (and was) driving impaired.”
