Discovery Village Ltd and Bruces Pet Care Ltd seek BCP Council permission to take over Adventure Wonderland sites

A THEME park in Hurn which has “struggled” to meet rising running costs is aiming to sell some of its land for redevelopment.

Bruce’s Pet Care and Russell Lucas-Rowe want permission from BCP Council to turn the stables and pony riding attraction at Adventure Wonderland into a dog daycare facility.

In a separate application, Discovery Village wants to turn a vacant theatre and workshop at the park into a children’s play cafe.

In a planning statement, the dog facility applicants said: “In recent years (the) park has struggled to meet rising operational and maintenance costs, and these have been well publicised.

“As a result Adventure Wonderland is going through a restructuring process in order to address these issues, and as part of that process they intend to sell the site to the applicants to raise vital funds.

“The proposals thereby seek to protect the ongoing viability and future of this local tourist attraction.”

The applicants said the 7,300sqft brownfield site for stables and pony riding would be an “ideal location” for dog daycare, which has a “clear and significant” demand.

Discovery Village said its plan to turn a disused 300-seat theatre and workshop into a play facility for children would see two disused buildings repurposed for business use, with a connecting corridor.

The consultation period for the dog daycare application ends 21st May, with the play cafe application ending 24th May.
