Met Office issues Yellow weather warning for New Forest and Christchurch on New Year’s Day




Gusts of up to 75mph are expected to hit the New Forest and Christchurch on New Year’s Day.

A Yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office, which is predicting “strong southwesterly winds on its southern flank” between 7am and 11.59pm tomorrow (Wednesday).

Coastal regions will see the strongest winds, with gusts of 65-75mph possible.

“Inland gusts will typically be in the 40-50 mph range, but a brief spell of 60mph gusts is possible in association with the passage of an active, squally cold front during the afternoon,” said the warning.

There is said to be a chance of travel disruption, some damage to buildings and power cuts.

The alert also warned of the risk of injury and dnager to life from flying debris, large waves and “beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties”.
