Lorry hits Tesco Express on Brookley Road in Brockenhurst, forcing it to temporarily close
A LORRY crash has forced a Brockenhurst convenience store to temporarily close its doors to shoppers.
Structural safety concerns were raised after the large vehicle reversed into the corner of the Tesco Express on Brookley Road around midday yesterday (Wednesday).
The A&T understands one of Tesco’s own lorries was involved in the incident, in which no injuries were reported.
Firefighters from Lymington responded to a call-out to the scene, along with a USAR (urban search and rescue) officer who assessed the building damage.
A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “There was no immediate risk with the store manager advised to keep the store closed until a structural engineer has completed an assessment.”
The shop was later seen to be shuttered, with a sign on the door, saying: “Store temporarily closed.” The building had also been cordoned off with fire service tape.
A Tesco spokesperson said: “Our Brockenhurst Express store is currently closed following a vehicle striking the building yesterday.
“We will reopen the store as soon as possible and would like to apologise for the inconvenience.”
