Shoplifter ordered to pay compensation after taking 12 packs of chicken from Sainsbury’s Local in Hampton Road, Blackfield




A BLACKFIELD shoplifter who stole 12 packs of chicken worth £36 has been ordered to pay compensation to the store.

Robert Glyn Jones (34) of Pendleton Gardens, took the items from Sainsbury’s Local on Hampton Lane in the village on 15th October.

He was arrested a short time later in Beaulieu Road, near to the Hythe and Dibden war memorial.

Appearing at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Monday, he pleaded guilty to one charge of theft from a shop.

He was fined £40 and ordered to pay £36 in compensation.

Speaking after the case, a spokesperson for Hampshire police said it took shoplifting seriously and added: “If you are a shop owner or staff member, please continue to report any shoplifting to us.

“With your information, we can take action, including arresting and charging suspects and convicting offenders at court.”
