Senior banker to stand trial over collision that killed motorcyclist

A SENIOR banker from Lymington has pleaded not guilty to causing the death of a motorcyclist by dangerous driving.

Derek Shakespeare (51), of Snooks Lane, Walhampton, faces the charge in relation to an incident that claimed the life of Peter Lowe.

The collision happened at the junction of A343 and B3058 Romsey Road, at Nether Wallop, near Andover, in October 2018.

At the time he was driving a Land Rover while Mr Lowe – who was 32 and from Porton, Wiltshire – was riding a Yamaha motorbike.

Appearing at Winchester Crown Court, Shakespeare denied the charge and Judge Keith Cutler granted him unconditional bail to return to stand trial on 22nd June 2020.

On LinkedIn, Mr Shakespeare’s profile states he works as the co-head of Barclays’ UK and Ireland Mergers and Acquisitions business.

In the past has also held senior roles for Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Credit Suisse.

Companies House lists him as an active director of a number of companies.

They include the Royal Ocean Racing Club Ltd, Seahourse Yachts Limited and Walhampton School Trust Ltd – which oversees the running of the prestigious Walhampton private boarding school in Lymington.
