Ringwood too strong for Whitchurch in Sydenhams Division One
Sydenhams Division One: Ringwood Town 4-0 Whitchurch United
RINGWOOD Town won their first game since early January after they brushed aside Whitchurch United 4-0 at the Macra Stadium.
Despite the recent weather, the pitch was in immaculate condition after hard work from the ground staff leading up to the game. Town started brightly and opened their account 11 minutes in when Ryan Hamm eluded the offside trap and passed to Ben Harris.
His strike was blocked straight to the feet of Matt Casey who side-footed past the keeper into the bottom left corner.
Strong saves
Whitchurch answered back with a chance of their own as Lloyd Thompson was played through one-on-one, but Ringwood keeper Liam Harris spread himself well and made a good save.
The visitors also had a shout for a penalty waved away by the referee after skipper Ryan Long was brought down on the edge of the area.
In the second half, Ringwood went forward in search of a buffer. They found their second five minutes after the interval when Casey converted from close range at the back post.
The home side banked the points on 76 minutes as Harrison Clarke fired home from the edge of the box. With a minute still left on the clock, substitutes Jack Ransom and Sam Brown combined to create one final chance which Ransom finished at the near post.
'We got stronger'
Ringwood Town manager Richard Morse told the A&T: “It was nice to win after a run of draws and a couple of losses. They were really good and the goals we converted were from some great play. I felt we got stronger as the game when on, so really pleased.”
Ringwood sit 14th in Sydenhams Division One with 27 points and will look to make it back-to-back wins when they face Downton on Saturday.
