Residents’ confusion as road sign on Barton Court Road stops drivers accessing New Milton High Street despite no closure

RESIDENTS in New Milton say they have been left confused by a road closure sign which suggests a main route is shut – despite it being open.

The sign on Barton Court Road indicates drivers cannot turn left onto New Milton High Street, yet the road is fully accessible to vehicles.

One local told the A&T the shops in the town were “dead” due to people thinking they could not access them.

A spokesperson for New Milton Town Council said on Friday it was aware of the problem, but that signs on the highway was the responsibility of Hampshire County Council.

The A&T has approached HCC for comment.
