Paddy the horse rescued by firefighters after getting stuck in drainage channel on marshland near Buckler's Hard

FIREFIGHTERS rescued a horse which became stuck in a drainage channel on marshland near Buckler's Hard.

The alarm was raised around 3.45pm on Wednesday after eight-year-old Paddy got into difficulty at the site off Sowley Lane.

His owners had already tried to pull him out, but he was trapped in mud and the channel was full of reeds.

A vet sedated him before he was released by crews from Beaulieu, Overton and Winchester, along with animal rescue advisor Jim Green.

Unhurt after his two-and-a-half-hour ordeal, Paddy was hosed down with warm water by the firefighters and then left with his owner for a feed.

Mr Green said afterwards: “There were no injuries and that was down to the success of the team work between the vet and crews.”
