Mudeford RNLI rescuers get improved access at the quay after raising congestion fears

MUDEFORD RNLI rescuers have been given improved access to their station following concerns over increased traffic congestion as the summer approaches.

Talks were held between BCP Council and the volunteer crews who were worried about their ability to swiftly and safely respond to emergencies during peak times at Mudeford Quay.

The council’s traffic and car parking teams subsequently authorised new road markings and signage allowing the crews emergency access via the quay car park’s ‘No Entry’ route.

Four parking spaces have also been allocated for the RNLI at the quay entrance, as well as use of the layby opposite.

This will allow crews to park in busy periods and run across the green to reach the station quickly.

RNLI volunteer lifeboat operations manager Tim Hewett said: “We really appreciate the efforts of BCP council, particularly Cllr Vikki Slade, to help us to find a solution to the problems of congestion on Mudeford Quay.

“With these changes, the crew can now get to the station safely and efficiently, to respond to any emergency situation and save lives.”
