Trains running again after lorry strike caused ‘significant’ damage to bridge and track running over the A337 Southampton Road in Lymington
TRAINS are running again after a lorry crashing into the railway bridge at Lymington caused “significant” damage to its structure and the line above.
Services between the town and Brockenhurst resumed this morning (Friday), having been put out of action by yesterday morning’s collision.
As reported by the A&T, a lorry ended up lodged underneath the bridge running over the A337 Southampton Road after striking it around 8.30am. No injuries were reported.
Rail replacement buses were laid on for the rest of the day, with Network Rail posting images of the damage it described as “significant”.
These showed large sections of the bridge’s brick structure having been dislodged by the impact, as well as the track having shifting to one side.
South Western Railway (SWR) said disruption would continue until the end of the day.
But a Network Rail spokesperson told the A&T some repair work had been carried out to allow service to resume today.
An SWR spokesperson said: “I'm happy to confirm that trains are running normally on that line today.”
