Mountain of desserts left after Burton 10km Pudding Race cancelled by freezing weather

FIVE-HUNDRED Christmas puddings need to find a home after icy conditions cancelled the annual race in Burton where they are given out to runners.

The 10km Pudding Race, organised by the Christchurch Runners club, was called off on Sunday due to the freezing weather, to the disappointment of hundreds of participants.

It is usually held at East Christchurch Sports and Social Club with the route taking in roads east of Burton.

Race director Chris Potter told the A&T on Monday: "The safety officer was slipping and sliding about so we had to call it off."

It is hoped the event could be rescheduled to January or February next year.

Mr Potter said the puddings would either be stored until then or given away to food banks.
