Police Taser driver after car chase in Lymington amid fears of ‘danger to the public’




A motorist was Tasered and headbutted a police officer following a car chase in Lymington.

The drama unfolded when members of the public raised the alarm at 7.10am on Sunday, with concerns about a black BMW 220i being driven on three wheels in the town.

It was said to have been driving on a wheel rim and up and down kerbs.

A short pursuit ensued after the driver refused to stop for officers on High Street.

A Hampshire force spokesperson said: “The car was stopped by police on Lower Buckland Road, where the driver tried to drive away again but was stopped with a Taser. He then headbutted an officer.”

A 23-year-old man from New Milton was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, failing to provide a specimen, criminal damage, and assaulting an emergency worker.

He was later bailed pending further enquiries.

An online post by local police following the incident told how the vehicle “presented a danger to the public” and “tactical contact” was made to stop it.
