“CARS are expensive, children are priceless” – that was the police message after an uninsured and untaxed car was seen driven in Ringwood with a youngster standing up inside.

Officers spotted the pre-school-aged child standing up between the vehicle’s driver and front seat passenger last Friday.

Having failed to evade capture by turning onto a nearby industrial estate, the Fordingbridge motorist was pulled over and a check revealed the lack of insurance and current car tax.

The owner was handed a £300 penalty ticket and six points were imposed on their licence. The £150 recovery cost will also have to be paid by the owner, along with £20 per day storage.

A police Facebook post afterwards said: “Cars are expensive, children are priceless. There is no excuse for failing to keep them safe.

“Always use an appropriate child seat and buckle them up to prevent avoidable tragedies. Humans don't dent, they die.”
