POLICE seized a realistic imitation gun from a youngster in Bransgore at the weekend.

Responding to reports the fake firearm was being carried by a boy who was out with friends in the village on Sunday, a local officer searched the area and found him.

The weapon was then handed over for destruction, and advice was given to the youth.

He was also shown a safety video which warned of the potentially fatal consequences of carrying an imitation gun.

A post on the New Milton Cops Facebook page, accompanied by a picture of the gun, asked people to consider whether they would be able to differentiate it from a real one.

The post continued: “PC Wood took details of an incident involving this firearm on Sunday, in which a boy had this in his possession while out with friends in Bransgore.

“Prompt enquiries meant that the boy was quickly identified and the gun surrendered for destruction.

“Advice was given and a video was shown to the boy to reiterate why having one of these while out in public is a very serious matter.”
