OFFICERS who found cannabis growing in the New Forest have left a note for the offenders to “maybe try tomatoes next year”.

Local police discovered the class B drug being cultivated at a site within the Ringwood and Fordingbridge beat area last Wednesday after a tip-off from a member of the public.

A post on Facebook afterwards by PC Tom Neale and PSCO Stephen May included images of the plants packed up in evidence bags.

“We were tipped off today about a little gardening project,” the post said.

“Well hidden in a top secret location, some green-fingered scamps have been having a go at growing cannabis. We've left them a note if they'd like a chat. Maybe try tomatoes next year.”

The handwritten message read: “Dear Mr Green Fingers, Sorry we had to take your plants.

“If you would like to have a chat about them give me a ring. Would love to hear from you. Ta. PC Neale.”
