POLICE are investigation two hedge blazes which firefighters had to stop spreading to nearby homes and vehicles in Holbury in the early hours.

Called out to Westbourne Avenue around 12.40am on Tuesday, a Hardley crew arrived to find flames engulfing a 20-metre stretch of hedging.

A post on the station’s Twitter account afterwards said fears the fire would also affect buildings and vehicles parked nearby led to another crew being sent.

The emergency was contained in about 45 minutes, with no other damage reported, and officers were alerted amid doubts over the cause.

A Hampshire police spokesperson told the A&T: “We are investigating the exact circumstances of two hedge fires in Westbourne Avenue between midnight and 1am this morning.”

Those with information should contact the force on 101, quoting incident reference number 44200426129, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
