POLICE are investigating another hedge fire on the Waterside which was stopped just as it came close to setting light to a nearby home.

Firefighters from Hardley and Beaulieu rushed to Rollestone Road, Holbury, just after 2am today (Thursday) and brought under control the flames, which they said were “starting to spread to a nearby property”.

It is the fifth such blaze reported in the area after two hedge fires Westbourne Avenue, Holbury, on 3rd November, and two more in Hythe’s Roman Road and Yelverton Avenue on 11th November.

Police launched an arson investigation after the Hythe incidents, where eight metres of hedge was found ablaze.

A Hampshire police spokesperson said: “We were called just before 2.25am to a report of a fire outside an address in Rollestone Road. Officers attended with the fire service and a bush was found to have been set alight.

“Enquiries into the exact circumstances of the fire are ongoing.”

Those with information should call 101, with the reference 44200475917.
