Man charged over alleged knifepoint assault in New Milton




A NEW Milton man has appeared in court today (Monday) following an alleged assault and knifepoint threats on a street in the town.

Zak Mapes (22), of Nelson Close, New Milton, faced a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and another of threatening a person with a blade in a public place when he appeared before Southampton magistrates.

This comes after a man was said to have been assaulted and threatened at knifepoint in the Davis Field area around 7pm last Thursday. The attacker was also said to have been armed with a baseball bat, which police seized after finding near the scene.

The Bench remanded Mapes in custody to appear at Southampton Crown Court on 15th October.

Officers had also arrested a 32-year-old New Milton woman on suspicion of burglary, assisting an offender and obstructing an officer in line with their duty in connection with the incident. She was released under investigation.
