Salvation Army urging Fordingbridge people to support festive toy appeal

TOWNSFOLK in Fordingbridge are being urged to spread some Christmas cheer this year by donating to the Salvation Army’s toy appeal.

The charity is calling on locals to donate new toys and gifts for its Christmas Present Appeal to help families who struggle to make ends meet over the festive season.

Last year, Fordingbridge Salvation Army distributed gifts to at least 74 adults and 144 children, although the church and charity fear more people will need their support this year.

Church leader Mike French said: “The Salvation Army’s present appeal is an opportunity for people in our communities to embrace the spirit of Christmas and give to families and individuals who have very little.

“We are incredibly grateful for the public’s generosity over the years and hope this year our appeal will be able to bring some respite to those who are struggling the most.”

He added: “Christmas is a time when financial worries are brought into sharp focus as the cost-of-living crisis continues to have a devastating impact on families who can’t afford to heat their homes or put a nutritious meal on the table.

“Helping parents provide a gift for their child not only eases financial pressures but helps bring the joy of Christmas into their homes.”

The church on Roundhill in Fordingbridge will be collecting donations of new unwrapped toys, and food for hampers, particularly Christmas treats, until Friday 20th December.

People can drop their contributions at Fordingbridge Salvation Army hall, Fordingbridge Information Office, The Branch, The Gourmet Grocer and Wolvercroft Garden Centre.

Donations can also be made at justgiving.com/fundraising/thesalvationarmychristmas-2024-18

Christmas carols will be sung at a family church service at Fordingbridge Salvation Army hall on 15th December from 9.30am to 10.15am; followed by an evening service there on 22nd December at 6pm.
