LEARN MORECROWDS of people turned out yesterday (Sunday) for the return of the Waterside raft race in Hythe – which was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.
The popular event, is organised by the Hythe and Calshot branch of the RNLI to raise funds for the organisation.
Participants were cheered on by spectators as they race around a course between the marina and the pier from 11am.
There were six races: best decorated, a women’s race, pub race, junior race, handicap race and fast Formula One race. Medals and trophies were presented to the winners by TV historian Dan Snow.
Visitors also enjoyed stalls, a funfair and refreshments.
A RNLI spokesperson said: "A big thank you to all who took part. It was a fantastic event and well worth the wait after the disappointment of last year. Well done to the winners and all who took part."
It is not yet known how much was raised, the spokesperson added.
