TRAVELLING aboard a steamroller, vintage motors, supercars and even a tuk-tuk, Year 11 pupils from Arnewood School arrived at Elmer's Court Hotel yesterday (Tuesday) for their leavers prom.

The glitzy event gave students from the New Milton school the chance to let their hair down and celebrate the end of weeks of GCSE exams.

Dressed in ball gowns and smart suits, they were watched by parents and friends as they made their red carpet arrivals before sharing a buffet and drinks in the grounds of the Lymington hotel.

Headteacher Nigel Pressnell said: “The prom was a fantastic way for the students to celebrate the end of the year and finishing their exams.

“There were more than 150 of them at Elmer's Court and they had a great time – and can now relax.

“This year group has had interruptions to their studies because of Covid and the lockdowns, so it is especially pleasing that they were able to have a prom.

“We will see around 60% of leavers back next year in our sixth form and, of course, we wish the others all the best in whatever they decide to do.”

Mike Byles, head of Year 11, added: “They are a lovely year group and it’s great to see them finish the year together on such a high.”
